When you mix peak performing cars with a closed road that leads up to Lake Mountain Alpine Ski Resort, you are bound to get your adrenaline pumping. For this reason, the idyllic Victorian mountain range was ideal for a small handful of us to test out Lexus Australia’s newest F-Line additions.
The latest F-Line series features a range of highly tuned V8 performance vehicles. The journey of the F-line is relatively new, however, it has made a fairly impressive mark on car enthusiasts around the world. Lexus’ first F-Line model was born in 2008 in the form of the popular IS. The IS F V8 was then followed by the rare and sought after LFA V10 supercar in 2011.
“The Peak at the Peak Experience” with Lexus Australia now welcomes 2 new models to the F-line range as a celebration of its 10 years of manufacturing high-performance vehicles. The RCF is a 5.0L V8 racing coup that sits light on the road and engineered with racetrack qualities. The GSF 5.0L V8 is a larger 4 door sedan, that might fool you into thinking that it is the more responsible of the two. Like the RCF, the GSF hosts a beast underneath the hood that will sink you into the back of your seat the moment you put your foot down. This is what we have come to know as “The Peak” to experience.
Some of the group arrived into Melbourne whilst others, who were local, met us at Melbourne’s newest private airport, Melbourne Jet Base. I was surprised to learn that Lexus Australia provides a private chauffeur service featuring their premium line of cars to those travelling domestically and internationally on private planes.
After flying 45 minutes north of Melbourne to Lake Mountain Alpine Ski Resort we were greeted by the Lexus Australia team for a team briefing on the models and capabilities of the cars. The drive day included two exercises with the group split into two.
Group one headed to a local township at the base of the mountain range. Whilst the other half rode shotgun with professional drivers manoeuvring across both lanes downhill on a closed road. I’m sure you can guess which one everyone preferred to do first.
The professional driver component let us truly experience the car’s capabilities from our very own closed road. The car showed off its features, from acceleration from a standing start to manoeuvring around tight corners and its resistance of the force of the breaks, as we approached the apex. Each rider was able to experience three vehicles to truly understand how the LFA V10, GSF V8 and the RCF V8 differed.
The second activity involved a leisurely drive down to the town of Marysville before swapping drivers and heading back up for lunch, culminating in an incredible helicopter ride home. For me, this was the perfect opportunity to experience one of Australia’s most desired roads to drive on as a car enthusiast. The road that leads from Marysville up to Lake Mountain Alpine Ski resort is considered a mecca for both bike and car lovers alike, which is obvious when you look at the geotagging on Instagram.
After a much-needed massage from professional racing physiotherapists, it was time to sit down with the rest of the media team for lunch. Finally, we had to accept the fact that the dream was over. It was time to head back to Melbourne on our awaiting helicopters. However, not before we got some photos before leaving.
