48 Hours in Queenstown

April 28, 2019

Without a doubt, and I will say it dozens of times over, this is the best small city in the world! Home to just shy of 15 000 or so Kiwi’s, the city of Queenstown feels like it has triple that when you start exploring the lakefront and surrounding suburbs. It has been dubbed the “Adrenalin Capital of the World” due to the number of extreme sports activities it has. Do you want to skydive, bungee jump and white water raft all in one day? No Problem! Queenstown has you covered.

There used to be a time where like most cities, it went through high and low season and accommodation prices would reflect that. Now, Queenstown sits at a constant high season and the local government is in even thinking about capping the tourism and restrict the number of people allowed to stay in the downtown area. This will create this element of exclusivity to the area, ultimately driving up pricing, and allowing other local nearby townships to benefit. So, what I am trying to say is get in there NOW, and while you are there, check out our top three best places to EAT, SLEEP and DRINK in my favourite small city in the world.

EAT

Yonder Cafe

Serving up some of Kiwi’s freshest ingredients with a mouth-watering all-day breakfast menu that caters for everyone. They have vegan and vegetarian meals, as well as options for you hung over carnivores. Yonder Cafe has the best coffee in town and you can enjoy it in a gorgeous street-facing courtyard with fairy lights if you need that Instagram shot!

Ferg Burger – Yes it’s worth the wait!

It is practically impossible not to go into Ferg Burger. If you are on your way to Queenstown it’s more than likely someone has already recommended this spot, so here we are, sounding like a broken record but… IT IS A MUST! Its been dubbed the best burgers in the world and even at 2 am there is a 50 person line. It’s worth the time in line, especially now that they serve ice cold Speights Beer on tap while you wait.

White and Wongs

White and Wongs is an Asian fusion restaurant only one street back from the pier. This restaurant also can be found on the Auckland Viaduct and it’s worth popping your head in for a light snack, like their steamed baos, or their many flavoursome curries. Even if you are not eating, they have a sensational cocktail and international wine list.
