The men of Hollywood well and truly embraced fashion at this years Academy Award ceremony. We saw a rise in colourful jackets, daring design and unique accessories. There were so many incredible looks on the red carpet, but we have narrowed it down to our six favourite looks from the biggest night in show business.
Michael B Jordan
Michael B Jordan turned heads on the red carpet in his Tom Ford midnight-blue jacket, paired with a simple pair of grey trousers and classic patent leather shoes. At the Oscars this year, we saw lots of people pushing the boundaries of fashion. This was no exception with the dazzling broaches on his lapel. There is no doubt that is a trend we will be seeing more of this season.
Kim Jones can do no wrong and this design for Dior Men proves just that. It can be hard to stand out in a sea of black suits on the red carpet, but Nicholas Hoult’s sash jacket prevails and is a strong contender for our “Favourite” of the night.
Who ever said classic was boring? Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek shone in his beautifully tailored Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello three-piece suit. The best accessory? A well deserved Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Queen legend, Freddie Mercury.
The Favourite’s Joe Alwyn followed the velvet jacket trend in his gorgeous Tom Ford ensemble. We were excited to see the return of the cummerbund, a trend that we don’t often see on the red carpet. The heeled patent leather boots perfectly complete this ‘concert pianist goes to the Oscars’ look that we just love.
Comedian John Mulaney impressed us at his very first Oscars appearance in Italian designer, Pal Zileri, and Ox and Bull cufflinks. He looks dapper and charming as ever, and we just adore his floral print suit jacket. We just have one request: Can he host next years ceremony?
While we might not be daring enough to attempt this look, there is no denying that this look was a highlight of this years Academy Awards. After what seemed like an endless stream of suits and tuxedos, Billy Porter blew us all away in a custom Christian Siriano tuxedo gown that turned heads on the red carpet (see: Glenn Close’s reaction).
